Pain Management

Jaw discomfort, clenching, and teeth grinding can affect your comfort throughout the day and night. Glen Mills Dental offers pain management options in Glen Mills, PA, including custom night guards for patients who grind or clench and Botox for some patients with TMJ-related jaw muscle tension. At your consultation, our team will learn about your symptoms, examine your teeth and jaw, and discuss which options may be appropriate for you.

Migraine & Headache Support

Headaches and migraines can have many causes. In some people, nighttime clenching or teeth grinding may contribute to morning headaches, jaw soreness, or pressure. During an evaluation, we can look for signs of grinding and clenching and discuss whether a custom night guard and/or Botox may be appropriate. A night guard helps protect your teeth while you sleep and may reduce pressure associated with grinding. It may not address every cause of headaches, so we may recommend discussing recurring headaches with your physician as well.

TMJ Pain Management

TMJ is the temporomandibular joint, which connects your jaw to your skull. If you have jaw muscle tension or discomfort, our team can evaluate your symptoms and discuss suitable options. For some patients, Botox may be considered to help relax targeted jaw muscles. We’ll review whether it may be appropriate for you, along with potential benefits and risks. Treatment recommendations are individualized, and Botox is not right for everyone.

When to ask about pain management

Consider scheduling an evaluation if you experience jaw soreness or tightness, frequent clenching or grinding, headaches when you wake, tooth sensitivity or wear, or discomfort when chewing or opening your mouth. These symptoms can have different causes, so an evaluation can help guide next steps.

A plan shaped around your needs

Your care starts with a conversation about your symptoms, dental and medical history, and goals. After evaluating your teeth and jaw, we’ll explain the options that may fit your situation and answer your questions. Treatment recommendations are individualized; a night guard, Botox, or another approach may be discussed depending on your evaluation.
